Lexi welcomes all types of students, from any background. But in particular, if you're a guitar player who's always wanted a female perspective, or if you're a young woman who's just getting into guitar, Lexi is a perfect match for you.
Born in Pueblo, Colorado, but most recently hailing from Gardner, MA, guitarist Lexi Havlin has been residing in Boston for four years. Growing up in a musical family, Lexi started off on the piano at age 6, picked up the clarinet at age 10, and finally found her true love on the guitar at age 13. After attending the University of Vermont for two years where she played piano in the university's jazz and afro-cuban bands, Lexi decided to devote full attention to the guitar and study at Berklee College of Music.
Her love for music took her down many roads at Berklee and inspired her to study a wide array of styles. In her last semester she was honored by receiving a guitar performance achievement award from Berklee, and after extensive studies, she now holds a degree in guitar performance. Lexi is currently performing in three exciting groups around Boston. ìObasiî is a 10 piece afro-funk band that she helped form in the summer of 2004. She is also a member of the female-based roots band ìZiliî. Lastly, Lexi also plays guitar in a unique swinging jazz duo (guitar/tenor) called ìThe Blue Twoî. Whether performing, teaching, or even just practicing, Lexi lets her passion and love for music take over, creating an outlet for others to share in her exciting endeavor as a musician and artist.
Lexi has lots of experience teaching an array of guitar styles including folk, rock, jazz, blues, funk, brazilian, afro-pop, and latin. With a Berklee degree, she's studied with some of the best educators in town, including Bruce Bartlett, Sheryl Bailey, Jon Damian, and Ben Sher.
