Deyana Valchinova is pursuing her Masters degree at the Boston Conservatory with Michael Lewin where she participates in many concerts including the Solo Piano and Chamber Honors concerts. She finished her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory where she studied with Peter Takacs and Spencer Myer. During her studies at the Oberlin Conservatory she has won the Three Arts Club Scholarship in Rocky River and the Rislov Foundation Scholarship in 2009. In the summers of 2007-2009 she was accepted to the Aspen Music Festival and School where she studied with Gabriel Chodos. In Aspen she performed in master classes with Yoheved Kaplinsky, and John O’Connor. She has participated in master classes with John Perry, Nelita True, and Tamara Poddubnaya.

 

She began her music studies at the age of six in The Plovdiv Music School in Bulgaria where she studied with Professor Elena Velcheva. During her studies in Plovdiv she won third prize in the Veselin Stoyanov National Competition in 2002. In the following year she won the concerto competition in her hometown and performed the Mendelssohn Concerto in G minor with the Plovdiv Philharmonic. In that same year she was accepted to the Idyllwild Arts Academy in California with a full ride scholarship where she studied with Nelms McKelvain. In Idyllwild she won the concerto competition and performed the Grieg Piano Concerto with the Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra.
