Michael Dobiel is a performer, composer and electronic musician. He studied at Westfield State
College (B.A. Saxophone Performance and Composition) and the University of Louisville (M.M.
Composition). His teachers have included Mark Satterwhite, Krzysztof Wolek, John LaBarbera,
Theodore Levine and Andrew Bonacci.
Michael is active as an educator at several schools in the greater Boston area, and joined the Page Music Lessons faculty in March 2011. He has an affinity for discovering where individual students are coming from, their learning style, and musical interests. This enables him to develop a unique approach for every student, drawing from his varied experience and knowledge. Michael draws on his experience with multiple instruments - including all saxophones, clarinet, flute, and trumpet - to enhance his instruction.
Michael toured Serbia in October 2009 with the Serious Play! Theatre and Ensemble, playing for the play Milosevic at the Hague. These performances took place at the Joakiminterfest in Kragujevac. While on this trip the band also played local clubs, working with Serbian musicians. Michael is now based in the Boston area, where he is involved in several projects as a player and composer. He has played with groups such as the Boston Soundpainting Ensemble, Saxophone in Machines, and Jaggery. He also produces his own concert series called Living Room Music.
