A native of Portland, Ji Yun Jeong graduated in 2004 with Bachelor of Music degrees (cum laude) in both violin and voice from the University of Oregon. Following graduation, Ms. Jeong spent a year at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, Netherlands, where she studied with Peter Brunt, Principal Second Violinist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra and member of the Osiris Trio. During this year she performed with the Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Contemporary Ensemble, and the North Sea Jazz Festival with the Phil Woods String Orchestra.
Last year, Ms. Jeong was a graduate teaching fellow at the UO School of Music, where she studied with violinist Fritz Gearhart and was Concertmaster of the University Symphony Orchestra. The following summer she taught violin lessons as a member of the UO School of Music summer faculty.
Currently, she is a graduate student at the New England Conservatory, studying with Lucy Chapman Stoltzman. An avid performer of chamber and orchestral music, she is a member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and frequently performs with the Orchestra of Indian Hill.
Ms. Jeong was recipient of numerous awards and honors during these years, including Outstanding Undergraduate Performer and Undergraduate String Performer (2004); Lillian and Paul Petri Music Scholarship Competition Winner (2004); National Federation of Korean-American Musicians Scholarship and Competition Winner (2004); Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Competition State, Regional Winner and National Finalist (2002, 2003 and 2004); American Music Teachers Association Collegiate Competition National Semi-finalist (2002). She was also a scholarship student at the Texas Music Festival (2000); Meadowmount School of Music (2002, 2003) and the Aspen Music Festival (2004).
