Voice
Born in Durham NH, vocal instructor Katie Seiler attended Western Michigan University and
received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Voice Performance, and followed it up with a Master of Music in Jazz Voice Performance at New
England Conservatory.
Katie has been involved in the study and performance of music since an early age, beginning with classical piano lessons. She then added voice studies and has performed regularly as a solo and ensemble vocalist in both classical and jazz styles. Vocal performances - including solo recitals and with the WMU Gold Company Jazz Choir - have included venues with artist Donny McCaslin, Pollyfolia Vocal Festival with the WMU Gold Company Sextet in Normandy, France, The Oprah Show as a backup singer for “Charice”, Scullers Jazz Club with vocal ensemble “Prism,” The Press Room jazz club in Portsmouth, NH as a soloist, and more. Katie has logged many hours of studio work, including sessions at WMU, with Tim Hauser on his recent CD, as well as with Gary Fry in Chicago.
For students interested in jazz, singer-songwriters, a cappella, and pop/rock styles, Ms. Seiler is an excellent choice for private lessons. Katie is comfortable accompanying her students on piano, and uses recording techniques to help her students progress. She enjoys working with students of all ages, and loves to share knowledge she gained from her own private coaches, including Luciana Souza, Kim Nazarian, Fred Hersch, Jason Moran, Dominique Eade, George Garzone, Frank Carlberg, Jerry Bergonzi, Dave Holland, and Stefon Harris.
